Rice comes in many different varieties — like white, brown, red, black — and all are different in their nutritional content.

White rich has the highest proportion of complex carbohydrates and does not really provide complete nutrition. Brown rice is much better as a meal choice. It contains higher amounts of nutrients like vitamin B and fibre than ordinary white rice. Brown rice also fills you up quicker and will prevent overeating and hunger pangs too soon after eating it. It is also full of fiber, so it’s great for diabetics. However, rice really needs to be accompanied by more nutritional foods and not eaten alone.

Best Timing:

The best time to eat rice is at lunchtime, as the body’s metabolism is higher at this time and therefore will use up the carbohydrates from the rice as energy for the rest of the day. This is not the case later on as the carbohydrates will be instead stored as fats and lead to weight gain. Try and have a rice salad at lunch and mix cold cooked brown rice with sweetcorn, grilled chicken, and some rocket leaves — delicious! If you must have rice in the evening, just have a small portion with your main meal. Be careful about eating too much as it will lead to extra pounds!
