OHL team the Windsor Spitfires made a great surprise for the city of Flint, Michigan where they had a hockey match with the home team Flint Firebirds.
Since 2014, the city of Flint tried to reduce their water supply dependence and decided to build their own treatment plant and to take water from the Flint River instead of Lake Huron, which came via Detroit and was treated.
But the ph levels of the Flint River corroded the lead pipes and made the water toxic. As a consequence, a lot of people got sick.
So, the Windsor Spitfires team asked their own community to donate bottled water for the people of Flint.
After only 60 hours, the Spitfires had got over 65 thousand bottles of water. A lot of people and local businesses participated in this venture.
It pleases the eye to read such news. Kudos to the Spitfires guys and to all the people who made this happen!
