Wouldn’t it be nice to buy something for your home like an oven, washer or furnace and know that you never had to spend the money to buy one again? Unfortunately, the systems and appliances in your home have lifespans – after using them consistently over the years, their mechanical parts get worn out and run down. They stop working, and then you end up having to pay for a brand new one.
This happens naturally with any mechanical purchase – think of a car, for example. After driving it so many miles, it needs maintenance; an oil change, tires replaced or brakes realigned. After driving it even more, there comes a point when car parts no longer functions as well as it should and it’s time to purchase a new car.
The same goes for your furnace, air conditioner, oven, dishwasher, etc. After many years of use, their parts will fail from normal wear and tear. It’s normal, but it’s also nice to know how long each appliance in your home is expected to last. That way, you can budget for a new machine, or make sure your home is covered with a home warranty before time is up.
Use this infographic to see when (on average) common house systems like your heating, cooling, plumbing or electrical wear out, or how long your appliances like your oven, dishwasher, washer and dryer have before they need to be replaced. We’ve also included the average cost to replace each item. However, if you do have a home warranty protecting your home, if these systems or appliances fail from normal wear and tear, you’ll only have to pay $60 to repair or replace them.
