People Who Don’t Post Updates About Their Partners Or Achievements Are Mentally Stronger

We all have that one friend who’s obsessed with sharing their fitness updates by checking into a snazzy gym or bragging about the number of calories he or she lost in the past five hours. We also know lovey-dovey couples who catalogue their entire relationship online-from posting pictures of the last grand meal they shared together, or a selfie at the Eiffel Tower or frequent changes from ‘It’s Complicated’ to ‘In A Relationship’ and vice versa.  And we passively like, comment or even share their achievements without giving it much thought.

Research Findings:

Well, according to a new research from the Brunel University in London, those who boast about their diets, workouts or fitness accomplishments are usually narcissists while those who frequently post on social media with updates about their romantic partners tend to suffer from low self-esteem. Both are attention-seekers, who rely on Facebook ‘likes’ and comments to feel good about themselves.

As Psychology lecturer Dr Tara Marshall says, “Although our results suggest that narcissists’ bragging pays off because they receive more likes and comments to their status updates, it could be that their Facebook friends politely offer support while secretly disliking such egotistical displays.”
