Ukrainian artist Alexey Kondakov decided to extract these Renaissance figures and place them directly into Kiev’s mundane urban environments in his Art History in Contemporary Life series, thus making them infinitely more relatable. Suddenly, the mythical figures found in works such as Cesar van Everdingen’s Bacchus, Caravaggio’s David and Goliath and William-Adolphe Bouguereau’s Nymphs and Satyr are sharing the same commute as us, trying to sneak out of a one-night stand, or blacked out from too much drink outside a liquor store.
