Baking these is quick and easy:
1. Prepare the ‘donut dough’
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 1 large egg
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
Mix all the ingredients and pipe donut shape on a baking tray (use pastry bags with the tips you like the most to get the desired shape of a donut, éclair of a cruller) and bake the cookies at 180º for 10-15 minutes.
2. Glaze the cookies – prepare white, brown or pink (any other color) glaze to cover your cookies.
Mix ½ powder sugar with 2-3 spoons of water (add 1 table spoon of cocoa powder for chocolate icing or food color for any other color).
3. Decorate the cookies when using the glaze and nonpareils, powder sugar, cinnamon, cream, coconut or anything else you love.
Pink Glazed with Colorful Nonpareils – you get there once you add a pink gel paste food coloring to the white glaze. Cover your cookie with the glaze and throw colorful nonpareils on the top of them before the glaze get dry.
Eclair – the typical decoration for eclair shaped cookies would be done when using the cocoa powder glaze, spread evenly across the whole eclair.
Powdered – no time for glazing? Simply cover your cookies in a powder sugar.
Rainbow Nonpareils – these will be ideal for kids birthday parties. Cover the cookie with any type of glaze and loads of nonpareils.
Cinnamon Bun – decorate the cookies with the cinnamon first, brush the swirl with cocoa powder, cover the ‘bun’ with the white glaze next, thin some of it with water and brush it onto the piped glaze.
Cruller – all cookies shaped into crullers would look the best with white glaze brushed when using a bit of water.
Boston Cream – add cocoa powder glaze on the whole top part of round looking cookies.
