10 Books You Must Read to Strengthen Your Leadership Skills
Whether we disagree with their leadership styles or not, all true leaders have one thing in common. They are naturally curious people who are life-long learners, and they satiate their need for knowledge through reading books. If you are interested in bettering your leadership skills, you may wish to add reading to your list of daily habits. Better yet, you should considering adding these 10 books to your reading list. They are certain to help you boost your leadership skills quickly.
1. The Leader Who had no Title – Robin Sharma
Robin Sharma has worked as a leadership consultant for multiple fortune 500 companies. In this book, he teaches his readers what he has taught employees at major corporations for years. This is an amazing book if you are ready to tear down the barriers of what a leader should be and who can become a leader. Did you know that you don’t need an official title to be a leader? You don’t even need people working underneath you. The author explains in detail how you can build the emotional and mental strength, among other personal traits (including compassion and purpose), to lead and influence people no matter where you are in your career path.
- Emotional Intelligence 2.0 – Travis Bradberry
You won’t find too many motivational books that include a testimonial by the Dalai Lama. Of course, that is only one reason to add this book to your reading list. You have probably heard of emotional intelligence. It is a measurement of your EQ that tells you how well you function and relate to others on an emotional level. The higher your EQ, the better you are able to lead others by becoming a more empathetic, socially aware individual.
- The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership – John C. Maxwell
This is another book with an impressive endorsement. This time, Stephen Covey steps in and provides a great forward. However, even without this endorsement, this is a great book. It uses compelling stories of leadership to help illustrate Maxwell’s 21 laws of leadership. You’ll be influenced and enlightened by the time you put this book down.
- Leaders Eat Last – Simon Sinek
A great leader isn’t a person who can get people to do what he or she wants. Anybody with power can do that, and power does not equal leadership. A great leader builds a team of people who want to succeed because they feel valued, that they are making a contribution, and that there own personal and professional development is a priority. This book is a great primer on obtaining success through treating people well.
- Principle-Centered Leadership – Stephen R. Covey
You can’t go wrong by picking up any of Covey’s books, but this one is especially inspirational. One of the most difficult challenges you will face as a leader is healing strife within your team. Through stories of great leaders, Stephen teaches you how to make people connect with one another and work together in even the most contentious of circumstances.- Bold – Steven Kotler and Peter Diamandis
Exponential technologies are technologies that have the ability to generate change and improve lives in ways that their creators could have never imagined. The personal computer and the internet are two examples of these technologies. In Bold, you will learn how to use exponential technology, especially the internet, to make your visions a reality.
- Drive – Daniel Pink
As you develop your leadership skills, one of the most important things that you will learn to do is motivate others. Unfortunately, many leaders don’t understand what it is that actually motivates people. Daniel Pink defines both the intrinsic and extrinsic factors that drive motivation. Then, he provides helpful guidelines on using intrinsic motivation to produce and increase drive in ourselves and others.
- Never Eat Alone – Keith Ferrazzi
Effective leaders build relationships with their team members, peers, and others. In this book, Keith Ferrazzi not only explains the importance of developing meaningful relationships in the workplace and elsewhere, he also provides action steps you can take to make this happen. After reading this book, you will find yourself better prepared to make connections with others.
9. Zero to One – Peter Thiel and Blake Masters
This is a book especially written for future leaders who are also entrepreneurs. All too many brilliant people come up with great, potentially world changing ideas, but thanks to conventional thinking, never let those ideas come to reality. Instead, they tame and reshape those ideas until they come to fruition as yet another uninspiring business. You don’t have to let that happen to you or your ideas. Read this book and learn to build your startup your way.
- The One Thing – Gary Keller
If you are struggling to find success as a leader, you may be trying to do too many things. The author, Gary Keller asks you to focus on one thing. This is the one thing that you can do right now that will make things easier and better. That is what should become your focus. When you are done reading this book, you will be able to apply this principle to all areas of your life.
- Bold – Steven Kotler and Peter Diamandis

Stand Up for Yourself: 4 Struggles That People Who Are Too Nice Know All Too Well
Everybody has heard the proverb: “Nice guys finish last.” In many cases, this saying has proved all too true. While being super nice all the time may have certain advantages, it most certainly has just as many, if not more, downfalls. You need to be able to learn how to dial down on the niceness, without it turning you into a complete dick.
If you find that you are one of those guys or girls that are “too nice”, you can probably relate to some of these points. Hopefully you’ll learn from something here to benefit yourself, for once.
1. People constantly walk all over you.
Because you are a nice, helpful person by nature, people notice that you are always willing to go out of your way to help. The problem is, this often ends up later biting you in the butt.
While I am not suggesting that you should not try to help others, you shouldn’t let people take advantage of you. Discern when to say “no” — for example, to those who are out only for themselves. Learn to speak up for yourself if people are always trying to speak for you in a situation. People will respect you more if you show a little bit of assertiveness.
2. People hardly take you seriously.
If you are the kind of person that is always in a positive mood for everything, many persons will have a very hard time taking you seriously. Of course, going through life with a lighthearted attitude can be good for the soul. But people will often interpret too much optimism as your inability to take anything serious; in the end, this will invalidate any good points you may have.
Stay positive when the situation call for it…But remember to tone down the happy-go lucky attitude when there is business to be done.
3. You forgive and forget too easily.
Being a nice guy (or gal), it makes sense that you will often not want to deal with confrontation. So, you choose to forgive people, even when you know they don’t deserve it. What you may or may not know is that this is only a temporary solution to your problems, and what you need to realize is that this person will more than likely end up screwing you over again in the future.
If you want to be able to resolve issues with others effectively, force them to take responsibility for actions that affect you (or others) negatively. They will either realize that they were in the wrong and not do you wrong in the future, or they will simply do it again, without care for your feelings. In which case, you need to start letting these negative people out of your life.
4. You love fast and fall hard.
You meet somebody, and you start to really care for them. You want to do whatever it takes to make this person happy. You start to make changes and sacrifices in your own life, just to please this person. The problem? The other person doesn’t exactly feel the same way about you, leaving you in deep trouble.
Often times, the person gets used to everything that you do for them, and starts to take advantage of you. You get so caught up in your feelings with this person, you aren’t able to see how they’re hurting you.
So, how do you prevent this situation? Don’t settle for anything less than what you deserve. If you are giving your all for someone and they aren’t giving back, you need to simply walk away from this situation. Making someone else happy is not worth it if you can’t be happy yourself.
One of these days, you’ll find that one person who will truly appreciate what you have to offer. Once you find this person, your nice personality will never be an issue again.

7 Simple Tools to Make Your Blog Posts Even Better
Creating blog posts that stand out in an over-crowded space is a challenge. These days, it feels like a simple text post on its own isn’t enough. Picking an interesting idea and writing out a thoughtful post is only half the battle. After all, there are a ton of posts out there already filled with pictures, infographics and videos.
The need to create visuals and graphics to enhance your post can seem daunting at first. But if you’re not design-saavy, there are tools created with you in mind.
With the click of a mouse, you can create content that looks as if a professional customized it just for you. Even though I don’t create visuals, I personally found using a number of these tools easy to use (and even fun).
So take a look at the resources below and see if they can help make your content creation easier.
1) Piktochart
At first glance, infographics can look complicated to make. But Piktochart can make things much easier. They provide some free templates for different situations. You can customize the template to your liking by using the shapes, fonts and images available.
Besides infographics, you can also use Piktochart to create presentations, reports, and posters. Below is an infographic I fiddled around with by using a template:
2) Haiku Deck
You already know about SlideShare. But what about Haiku Deck?
Haiku Deck enables you to make beautiful decks using templates, images, and font designs. They are designed in a simple, yet elegant way so that you have a scenic backdrop for your message. Adding a deck to your blog post creates a visual element that’s easy for readers to flip through.
3) Photopin
Do you ever feel frustrated when you see a nice image that’s perfect for your post, but then realize you can’t use it? Try using Photopin instead. Photopin is a free resource for bloggers to use that has a large database of Creative Commons photos. You can select the image size and then grab the HTML for attribution (hey, it’s only fair, right?).
4) Canva
Adding a downloadable freebie is a simple way to add value to blog readers at the end of the post. Providing a PDF that’s a worksheet, checklist or simply a summary of the post is a good way to make your post stand out.
If you want to make it look professional, Canva is easy to use. It provides pre-made templates, images and easy editing.
If you’re like me, you probably write your initial blog post draft in Microsoft Word or Google Drive. But even though these programs make it easier to craft your article, it can be a pain to transfer over the post to your content management system.
This is where Word2CleanHTML comes in. It takes your document and fixes it so that it’s HTML friendly. All you have to do is paste the document, click a button, and the job is done. Voila!
Linking to scientific research helps create credibility and authority. When writing a blog post, Google Scholar is a great resource to look up academic journals and studies. It’s just like typing into regular Google, except you get the output of research data. One of the best features is that you can adjust the period of research, which keeps you from having to sift through outdated data.
Find yourself rambling on in your writing? Hemingway App, named after the famous writer Ernest Hemingway, helps you simplify your writing. The app highlights words and sentences that could do with some tweaking.
Just copy and paste your work into the app and it’ll analyze your writing. The lower your grade, the more readable your writing is.
Conclusion
Going the extra mile with your blog post can work wonders. Your post becomes more appealing, making visitors more likely to share your content.
Don’t be afraid to experiment around and see what works. Remember, though, these are simply tools to get you started. You need to decide how you want to use them in order to increase the value of your content.
What’s a resource you like to use to give your blog post that extra shine?

11 Reasons You Should Date a Sorority Girl
So, how about those Greek girls? If you haven’t ever done so, dating a sorority girl is something you may just want to consider. These girls have some great qualities that come from being pledged to a sorority and they are surprisingly well-suited to relationships.
Here are eleven reasons you should give your heart to a sorority girl.
1. They Understand Commitment
Greek-pledged girls understand what commitment is. When they pledge, they are becoming part of a sorority for life. They aren’t scared away by that commitment — so they just might be open to meeting your parents one of these days.
At the very least, they’ll be a lot more committed to a monogamous relationship with you.
2. They Have a Lot of Friends
Your sorority girl will have a lot of sisters. That means that they aren’t going to be totally clingy and want to be with you all the time. Instead, they will spend time with their friends often so you will be able to spend time with your buddies – or if you want – kick back and watch the game in peace and quiet.
Additionally, your buddies will be forever in debt to you for the amount of girls you introduce them to.
3. They’ll Appreciate Your Loyalty in the Midst of Their Drama
Okay, so they are going to have drama. Drama and sorority girls simply go hand-in-hand.
But they are going to appreciate the way that you stick by them — just like their sorority sisters do when they have drama in their life.
4. They Know When You Need to Be Professional and When to Let Loose
They’ve been well-trained by their sorority sisters regarding when to get down to business and when to have some fun. That will come in handy when you’re in a relationship.
5. They Are Well-Rounded
Sorority girls are definitely worth having around because of how well-rounded they are. They are smart, sexy, funny, comforting or any combination of those and more.
Sorority girls are more talented, more experienced and fuller of information about all kinds of stuff than their Greek-less counterparts.
6. They Are Confident
Sorority girls went through the whole pledging process which may or not have involved streaking through campus at midnight with campus safety on their heels. If that doesn’t take confidence, I don’t know what does.
7. They Aren’t Clingy
They’ve got plenty of options besides you and that leads to them being sure of themselves and not clingy. And isn’t that the kind of girlfriend all of us want?
8. They Are F*cking Beautiful
Um….they are sorority girls. Have you ever seen an ugly one? They are absolutely the most beautiful girls on campus and they know how to make themselves look amazing.
9. They Know How to Have Fun
You know those pillow fights that you hear about going on in the sorority houses? Well, it’s not just a wonderful story my friend. Sorority girls know how to have fun. They’ll be up for just about anything.
10. They Are Sexually Experienced
Sorority girls have double exposure when it comes to sexual experiences. Not only are they in college, where all of the magic happens, they are also in a sorority. That pretty much makes them the most desirable girls on campus.
11. They Take Photos of Everything
You’ll never have to worry about having enough photos of them, or them with you, or you with their friends, or them with their friends, or you and them with their friends. They take lots and lots of photos and pretty much your entire dating life with a sorority girl is going to be chronicled on film.

10 Things Unsuccessful People Keep Doing
So many people grow up with what I like to call a “fairy-tale attitude”: They simply think that everything will end up working out for them, as if their life is so much more important than everyone else’s. While they may be the star of their own show, they’re certainly nothing special to the world without ever doing anything to prove their worth.
If you want to work hard to add something to the world, and increase your chances of success, make sure to avoid practicing any of the following habits.
1. Procrastinating
Time is a valuable asset that cannot be replenished. So why would you spend time putting off your obligations? The unsuccessful don’t realize that those obligations are only going to pile up higher and higher the more you sweep them into the corner. Avoiding responsibilities only makes it that much harder to face them when push comes to shove.
2. Placing blame
It’s easy for the unsuccessful to blame others for their mistakes, but it doesn’t get them anywhere.
Owning up to your shortcomings allows you to grow as a person. Realize that it’s totally fine to make a mistake (as long as you only do it once), but it’s never okay to make someone else take the fall when you screw up.
3. Minimizing others’ achievements
I think everyone at one point has read about someone else’s accomplishments and thought “Psh, I could have done that if I tried hard enough.” But did they? No, they didn’t; otherwise it’d be their face on the cover of TIME magazine, not the other person’s.
Give credit where credit is due, and you’ll realize that it’s not only talent that gets you ahead; it’s what you do with that talent that really matters.
4. Consuming
Unfortunately, we live in a society that glorifies consumption. TV shows are on whenever you want, stores are open 24 hours a day, and credit cards make it easy to hop on Amazon and buy yet another gadget you’ll use for a few days then toss into your closet.
Instead of constantly taking from society, do something to give back. Create something for other people to enjoy; you’ll realize it’s even more rewarding than consuming something created by others.
5. Talking too much
Again, our society seems to value those who talk a good game, regardless of whether or not they follow through with their words (just watch any political debate to verify this). Not only do the unsuccessful talk too much and act too seldom, but they also lack proper listening skills.
Take the time to actually hear the messages other people’s words are saying, rather than just waiting for your turn to speak. You might actually learn something.
6. Making assumptions
So many people let their prejudices place a veil over their world. It’s never healthy to assume you know what someone else is thinking or feeling, yet that is the default practice of the unsuccessful.
Until you’ve walked in another person’s shoes and seen the world from their perspective, you have absolutely no right to assume that they are stupid or wrong just because their viewpoints clash with yours.
7. Acting negatively
Naysayers are the party-poopers of the real world. While others are busy searching for solutions to problems, negative people throw in the towel, thinking “Why bother?” or “That’ll never work.”
Such a defeatist attitude is a self-fulfilling prophecy: If you come up to the plate thinking you’re going to strike out, you almost certainly will.
8. Making excuses
We spoke before about placing blame, but it’s possible to make excuses while not pointing the finger at someone else specifically. Unsuccessful people always have some reason lined up for why they failed to complete a task: “I had too much else going on,” “It was impossible to do in that amount of time,” and so on.
Making an excuse is only an admittance that you couldn’t overcome the difficulty placed upon you.
9. Being fearful
Many unsuccessful people are unsuccessful because they’ve simply never put themselves “out there” and tried to accomplish something. This goes along with their negative attitude: They’re scared of failing, so they don’t even try. Unfortunately, what they don’t realize is that failure can eventually lead to success if they learn from it. But they’ll never succeed if they’re too afraid to try.
10. Quitting
Some unsuccessful people try, then fail, then quit. I could go on ad nauseum about the many successful people of our time who failed over and over again, only to change the world when they finally got it right. Thomas Edison didn’t just one day invent the light bulb, and the Wright Brothers didn’t just one day create the airplane. They worked through trial and error, figuring out what worked and what didn’t, until they perfected their invention — and went from daydreaming hopefuls to successful inventors.

Tips From Millionaires: How To Get Rich Easily
Payday should be a happy occasion, but it sometimes seems that the money is spent before it even hits the bank. Living paycheck to paycheck becomes the norm, and you can never get ahead because you have nothing left after the monthly “bill collectors” get their share. It may seem like it takes luck and the lottery to become rich, but a little knowledge can take you a long way. Take a few tips from a millionaire and watch your money grow.
Make a Budget and Financial Plan
If you want your money to grow, you have to start by developing a smart budget and financial plan. Keep a notebook or a journal detailing your plan and stick to it. A budget and financial plan can only work if you are willing to take it seriously. Write down your income and then tally up all of your bills to see how much you will have to spend. More importantly make sure that you have enough money to sustain your household. If your bills are larger than your income, you need to make some adjustments.
Before you attempt to invest or funnel your money in other directions, you should always pay your monthly bills. Being in debt keeps you from reaching your full financial potential so cut out any unnecessary spending. Write down any goals that you would like to obtain such as paying off your credit card debt, paying off your student loans or investing in a money market account. With any leftover money make sure that you use it wisely. You can put extra towards paying off debts, or you can invest in an IRA or contribute to a 401K plan.
Create Multiple Income Sources
Of course bringing in a steady income is important but when it comes to being a millionaire, bringing in multiple streams of income is even more important. Take on an extra part-time job to bring in a little extra. Side jobs such as grass cutting, car washing and even selling on eBay are additional ways to make money. With the way, the job market can sometimes dip it helps to have a backup plan. This tip is especially important if your full-time income is not enough to cover all of your monthly expenses.
Work for yourself. Take the time to start your own business. Start building your empire or brand. You can start off small. Turn your favorite pastime or hobby into your side hustle. Sell cosmetics online or start your own clothing line out of your home. Nothing is better than being your own boss. A majority of the people who are in the millionaires club work for themselves.
Save, Save And Save Some More
When you are first starting off it can seem hard to save but as little as $25 or $50 per month can make a difference. You don’t have to put your money under your mattress to watch it grow. Put it in a savings account that accrues interest and let your money work for you. Build an emergency fund so if you are laid off work or have a family or household emergency you are covered.
Find small ways to save money. Eat out less, downgrade your cable or tweak your grocery budget so that you can save more. Pay off your credit cards and any other debts so that you can save this money. You should aim to save as much of your income as you can. The more you save, the more you have to invest either back in your own business or in the market. Many millionaires started off small, but their ultimate goal became to save just as much if not more than they spent.
Make It A Rule To Live Below Your Means
Most rich people will probably tell you that one of the biggest mistakes that people make is living above their means. Expensive cars, clothes, jewelry and trips are nice, but they come at a price. Don’t allow your paycheck to control you; control the paycheck. Remember your financial goals and stick to them. Of course, this does not mean that you cannot have nice things, simply focus more on needs than wants.
Do your research and avoid mistakes during the car buying process to ensure that you make the best choice for your budget. You don’t have to get an expensive or flashy car simply because you can afford it. Maybe considering buying used instead of new which can save you even more money. The money you save can be put into savings and take you that much closer to your goal.
If you are guilty of impulse shopping, avoid malls and boutiques and instead focus on wearing the clothes you have. Cash is king. Though, in an emergency, you may have to use a credit card, you should try to limit their use. If you know that you will not be able to pay it off within a few months, then do not charge it. Think about all the times you have declared in desperation, you have nothing to wear but yet have a walk in closet full of clothes.
Talk To The Professionals
It is a common misconception that you have to be rich to talk to a financial planner. A financial planner helps you to make smart decisions with your money regardless of whether its one hundred dollars or one million. A financial planner can help to explain about portfolios and investments. They will use their expertise to help you make a decision not make it for you. It is still your job to be involved in the process and know exactly where your money is going. Millionaires often use financial planners to help them manage their money, but they are also often involved in the day-to-day affairs of their finances. So remember to follow the money.
Will you become a millionaire soon just because you follow these steps? No, you may not but you will be armed with all of the tips you need to develop your plan and get the ball rolling. The ball is in your court.
