15 Things Only People Who Love Heavy Metal Music Would Understand

heavy metal

Heavy metal is perhaps the most laughed at, and least understood genre in the history of music. While heavy metal as an identifiable genre has only been around for roughly 35 years, the spirit of such powerful tunes undoubtedly saw its beginnings centuries ago. Just as heavy metal musicians have crafted the ability to make bold sonic statements, heavy metal lovers are their own variety of people who have admirably specific reasons for their love of the genre.

Below we’ve compiled 15 things only people who love heavy metal music would understand:

1. You listen to heavy metal because you actually enjoy the music, not just because you’re “angry.”

In fact, you’re angry less frequently than most non-heavy metal listeners would like to believe!

2. You know there’s always room in your budget for a concert.

Especially when a killer tour package comes to town!

3. You hold onto your metal memorabilia with pride

You still have the t-shirt you bought from the first heavy metal concert you ever attended.

4. You find the thought of losing the autographed album or poster you got from your favorite band (while they still featured your favorite lineup) akin to the thought of losing a limb.

This is precisely why it’s kept at the bottom of a cardboard box in your room… Or framed in a glass case, hanging by your bed.

5. Your favorite heavy metal song can always put you in a better mood.

No genre is more triumphant than metal!

6. You recognize the fact that heavy metal music actually calms you down and provides an outlet for your emotions and experiences.

Two researchers from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia found that metal listeners felt calmer, more positive, and more inspired after listening to heavy tunes!

7. You understand that your favorite genre’s heroes will never fade from the limelight.

The likes of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Pantera, Megadeth, Dio and many others contributed timeless works of art to the Heavy Metal Hall of Fame.

8. You’re well aware that heavy metal is actually more popular than pop music.

Thanks to Spotify, there is now further proof of this glorious reality!

9. You would give anything to witness your “dream lineup”

You’d give anything to see this lineup- whether it be individual band members forming a supergroup or all your favorite bands heading out on a megatour.

10. You already know that if one of your favorite bands mentioned a farewell tour, you would purchase tickets on the spot.

You would never miss the opportunity to crowd surf one last time for a band that has changed your outlook on life itself!

11. You respect and appreciate the founders of heavy metal just as much as the modern warriors of the genre.

Periphery, Meshuggah, August Burns Red, Wintersun, Animals As Leaders and dozens of other notable acts have just as much to offer as the classics.

12. You love the visceral and empowering vibe that washes over you during a heavy metal show

It stays with you for days after the show.

13. Your joy in listening to heavy metal only expands over time.

What began as just a handful of albums on your computer or portable listening device has now mushroomed to hundreds of albums and dozens of heavy metal subgenres. There can never be too much metal!

14. You find that listening to heavy metal makes you feel inspired and in touch with your emotions

Far more often than leaving you “drained” or “angry”, heavy metal leaves you feeling upbeat and positively in touch with your emotions.

15. You know that heavy metal shall live on forever.

These are just a few of the reasons heavy metal aficionados have such an affinity for the genre, as well as the tightly-knit metal community. What’s more, it’s indisputable that the supporters of metal are growing daily. Heavy metal was born decades ago and continues to expand its reach, both musically and within hearts and minds today.

You never know – perhaps someone you love will become the next heavy metal lover!

Having Twins? Tips And Advice On Naming Twins Or Multiples

15311467630_812f6d4a1c_k

Congratulations on having twins! After the initial shock wears off, expecting two bundles of joy can induce overwhelming feelings of happiness, but also moments of being just plain overwhelmed. Now you need to prepare double of everything, including two names. Choosing one name can seem daunting enough, now two can seem at times impossible. Fortunately, there are many creative ways to come up with twin names that will fit your two little ones. The most important thing to remember in the process is that although your twins share the same looks and birth date, it is important to see them as individuals as well. Here are five suggestions on how to zero in on two ideal twin names.

1. Rhyming names

It might be tempting to rhyme your twins’ names, since it would be cute, especially when they are little. It is important to think long-term and remember that when they get older it is not as endearing to have rhyming names with their sibling, just as dressing alike becomes less adorable. Another downside of having twins with rhyming names is that since they sound similar they can easily be mixed up. Imagine calling for Mike, when both Mike and Ike come, because they both thought they heard their names. When you consider rhyming, focus on longer names or those that could include nicknames that do not rhyme.

2. Names that start with the same letter

Naming both your twins with names that start with the same letter has its pros and cons. Mike and Michelle seem to roll of the tongue and are names that provide unity to your children. The downside through is that your twins might see these names as too close to each other and want to have more independence from one another. If you are really keen on the idea, a good compromise is to find names that start with the same letter but are vastly different from each other and have a different numbers of syllables, like Sloan and Samantha or Brett and Barbara.

3. Anagrams

This technique rearranges the letters in a name so that it becomes a different one all together, providing you with two different names. An example of this is Nadia and Aidan. This is a highly creative way to discover pairs of names for your twins and will allow for them to share a similar name source, but allow for uniqueness at the same time. The downside is that there will be less options for names and that it will take a little extra research to discover an anagram that you like.

4. Theme names

There are many different themes that you can choose from when naming your twins, whether it is religious, nature-oriented or cultural. From Iris and Violet, to Faith and Jesus, the options are endless. Another option is too choose names that have the same meaning, for example Clara and Gwen, which both mean light or Asher and Felix, which both mean happy.  It is important to check all the meanings behind the names and make sure that they are both positive in nature.

5. Having twins with popular names

The Social Security Administration compiles a list every year of the top twin names for both boys and girls. Choosing any of these names can make it easier on your twins, because everyone will be familiar with these names and they will not have any trouble with spelling or pronunciation as they go through life. On the other hand, popular names can cause confusion because there are bound to be peers with the same name as well. Imagine your twins always hearing their names being called, but not sure whether it is for them or not because there are others with the same name. One trick that some parents use is to use popular names from  decades ago, just to get ideas and see what stands out to you!

What To Expect When You’re 5 Months Pregnant

4925358935_accdb0db5e_b

Five months (around 20 weeks) is over the halfway mark of your pregnancy. At this time your baby is usually approximately the size of an artichoke, and there are numerous changes that are happening to your baby and your body. Here are some of the common things that you can expect to be taking place when you are 5 months pregnant:

You may develop nightmares

During this time in your pregnancy you may find yourself having frequent nightmares. These are caused by a combination of insomnia and stress about being a new mother. When this happens, remember to first take a few deep breaths and remind yourself that the nightmare is not reality. Put on some soothing music or sip on some warm tea to lull you back to sleep. If you want, keeping a journal of your nightmares is a great way to record your bad dreams and release the tension that is causing them.

You will probably have an obvious baby bump

You mostly likely will have a pronounced baby bump that will make it obvious to all around you that you are pregnant- and not just bloated from last night’s burrito. Of course, every woman is different in her pregnancy and it is important to not compare yourself with others if you are not showing as much as one of your pregnant friends.

You will be able to find out the baby’s gender

After five months of wondering if it will be a boy or a girl, you will finally have the opportunity to find out. This is one of the most anticipated moments of pregnancy and you can find out several different ways. If you want to just know the answer, plain and simple, without any fanfare, then you can just ask your doctor to let you know. If you want to do the big reveal with friends and family, then you can have a gender-reveal party where you can ask your doctor to seal the gender result in an envelope that you will hand over to a bakery. The bakery will either put blue or pink frosting inside the cake, depending on what is on that slip of paper. Of course, alternatively, you can always opt to not find out until the actual day. All options are perfectly acceptable.

You will be peeing more frequently

Your growing baby will be pressing down on your kidneys and causing you to pee more than before. Make sure you are always by a bathroom and that you stay well hydrated. If you feel more comfortable with increased protection, consider wearing panty liners.

You will feel increased movement

Your baby is continuing to grow their limbs and testing them out by kicking and flexing. All this movement may be hard to deal with at times, especially when you are trying to sleep, but just remember that it means your baby is healthy and developing well.

Your baby will continue to develop hair, nails and eyebrows

When you are around 5 months pregnant, your baby will continue to look more and more like a human being, rather than a little sea monkey. Crucial features like hair, nails, and eyebrows will continue to develop.

Your baby will start to develop Meconium in their bowel

Meconium is a harmless substance, made up of various things that your baby has ingested while in the uterus, including amniotic fluid, digestive secretions, and dead skin cells. It will contribute to your baby’s first poop after being born.

You may develop round ligament pains

Around this time you may start to feel sharp pains around your hips, abdomen, and groin; this is completely normal. As your uterus expands, the round ligaments that are attached to your pelvic sidewall and on each side of your upper uterus are being pulled and stretched. Some things that will ease this discomfort include: applying warmth to the area in the form of a heating pad, avoiding sudden movement, and exercising regularly.

Productive Daily Routine That Works Well For Both Early Birds And Night Owls

Notebook

Following a productive daily routine is a great way to improve your productivity. Depending on your lifestyle and needs, you will need to decide when to do this routine. Many successful people complete their daily success routine in the morning or in the evening.

1. Use your high energy time for high value tasks

Over the course of the day, your energy level will change. If you wake up slowly and hit your stride later in the day, then it makes sense to schedule important meetings and activities later in the day. How do you determine your high energy time? The best approach is to simply experiment over a few days – attempt to do high value tasks at different times of the day. Before long, you will determine what times suit you best.

Resource: To deepen your knowledge of personal energy management, read “The Power of Full Engagement” by Jim Loehr

2. Do “brain dead” tasks during slow periods

Everyone has boring tasks to work through to keep their work and lives in order. You might have to install updates on your computer once a week to keep all of your programs working smoothly. These tasks often fall into the “maintenance” category – ignore them at your own risk. You can also use this time to reduce clutter around the office or at home – a few minutes of organization effort each day go a long way to maintaining order.

Completing a few maintenance tasks during your in-between time is a great way to end your day on a strong note.

3. Read from a book every day to expand your knowledge

Seeking new ideas, knowledge and inspiration from books is one of the most important actions for your daily routine. You can use daily reading time to build technical knowledge (e.g. read a “For Dummies” book about a computer program you want to learn). You could also use this time to refresh yourself by reading fiction: author Tim Ferriss recommends, “Read fiction that engages the imagination and demands present-state attention” as part of your evening routine.”

Tip: Get started by reading 11 Books To Make You Lead A Much More Productive Life.

4. Write your to do list for the day

A Weekly Review habit is a key habit that many successful people practice each week. However, a weekly review is not enough to maintain focus on the results that matter to you. A great approach is to answer the question posed by the 5 Minute Journal: “What would make today great?” (and keep the answer to a maximum of three tasks).

Tip: There’s an art to writing an effective to do list. Discover how to write Your Task List.

5. Observe “Amish hour” (no technology for 1 hour before bed)

Technology is one of the great blessings of our age. We can get work done faster than before, learn new ideas from people around the world and much more. However, too much technology use makes it difficult to get to sleep. The light from TVs, computers and other devices signals your mind that sleep is still hours away.

For the best results, practice the Amish hour habit developed by Neville Medhora – no technology for an hour before bed. You can use that time to read, reflect on your time and go through your evening routine.

6. Write down one idea on how you could have made the day better.

Reflecting on your day to find lessons and improvement opportunities is one of the best productivity habits. If you are in sales, you could reflect on your presentations to customers. You could also reflect on ways to communicate better. Becoming better each day is much easier than attempting to make dramatic improvements once a month (or once a year). You can also reflect on how on your conflict management skills.

This Powerful Campaign Impresses People And Makes Them Quit Smoking

154247836_ccbf5a3174_o

“The Message from the Lungs” is loud and clear: Stop. Smoking.

Although most smokers probably don’t think too much about it, the above video shows just how much tar builds up in your lungs over a lifetime of inhaling carcinogenic material.

In conjunction with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation and Faculty of Medicine for Chulalongkorn University, BBDO Proximity Thailand extracted tar from the lungs of a man who had smoked for 50 years of his life on a daily basis, and created ink from it. They then bottled and distributed it to the public, accompanied by a demonstration of just how much ink was created, and how incredibly dark it is.

Though the exhibition was, of course, meant to reach all members of the public, BBDO Proximity Thailand focused its efforts on “current and potential smokers to see how smoking can harm their lungs and their bodies, and also convince them to quit sooner.”

Although the dangers of smoking are well-documented and generally well-known, many people continue to ignore warning signs throughout their lives. Smokers need to be especially aware of the dangers of second-hand smoke, which can affect loved ones who have never voluntarily taken a single puff of a cigarette. New studies have shown the detrimental effects of third-hand smoke, a relatively new concept which focuses on the residual smoke deposits on clothes, hair, skin, and surfaces throughout the household of smokers.

If you or someone you know and love needs help quitting smoking, check out this helpful guide full of tips and other resources to assist you along the way to a more healthy lifestyle.

5 Experiences That Can Bring Couples Closer Together

picjumbo.com_HNCK7373

When you and your partner spend most of your time working or studying, busy as bees, it is natural that you can grow somewhat distant from each other. However, relationships tend to get spoiled and break down if you don’t pay enough attention to their development.

If you suddenly realize that you don’t seem to understand your loved one quite the way that you used to, it’s time to apply some positive experience therapy. There are certain events and experiences that bring couples closer together. Here are five such experiences that would do you some good to share with your partner.

1. Getting A Couple’s Massage

What could possibly be a better connecting experience than a relaxing couple’s massage? You might make it a weekly tradition. Simply pick the day, time, and spa of your liking, and take your partner out for the massage session. This might be an enjoyable way to begin a Friday evening after the long and hard workweek. You two could use the time to talk with each other, or simply to lie quietly while listening to music. In fact, the latter might be preferable — silence allows you to better concentrate on positive feelings, and that is exactly what you need this experience for.

2. Showering Together

Showering together is quite an interesting and intimate experience. There are many reasons why you should try it with your partner at least once. It’s unusual, it sets up new privacy conditions, besides, it’s simply comfortable — you can get your loved one to scratch your back with a sponge and then return the favor. There are also plenty of other things that two adults can get up to in the shower — it’s all up to you. One thing is certain — you will literally get up close with your loved one if you shower together.

3. Getting an STD Tested Together

Testing yourself and your partner for sexually transmitted diseases and infections is something you should do before becoming a couple — however, it’s never too late. There might be certain issues with this experience that could possibly drive the whole couple’s therapy idea in the wrong direction, so you’d better be absolutely positive about your own loyalty when you decide to test yourself. However, if you and your partner have no trust issues and have never cheated on one another, the experience of getting STD test together might unite you better than any other event.

4. Spending A Vacation Together

It’s not as easy to set up a vacation together as it seems, but it’s totally worth it. The success depends on whether you will find a type of vacation that will satisfy both of you. That may be hitchhiking, traveling by cruise ship, or spending your free days lazily on a beach. The place, conditions and activities of the vacation should be equally acceptable for both of you, so make sure that your partner shares your enthusiasm about whatever you have in mind, whether that’s shopping, engaging in sports, or sightseeing — make plans together. You will be rewarded for your efforts with all the happy memories you will share after the vacation of your dreams.

5. Cooking Dinner Together

Cooking together will definitely unite you as a couple. Even if you burn down your stove in the process, the value of this experience is not to be underestimated. There is no need to spend hours in the kitchen, just find a good recipe for a simple and tasty dish. For example, you could make pies or pizza, or even a salad. Sushi is another popular thing to prepare as a couple.

The main thing about cooking together is that both of you have to actually participate in the process. Don’t shove your partner aside because they are not skilled enough. Share your tasks and in the end you will get some tasty food and lots of positive impressions.

As you can see, there are more than enough ways to make the relationship stronger. Use these tips to get close with your loved one!

Trying To Make Some Extra Cash? 11 High-Paying Jobs You Should Consider

picjumbo.com_HNCK7801 (1)

So, you finally landed your dream job but living your dream isn’t paying your electricity bill. Or perhaps you have an excessive shopping habit and your regular salary simply can’t keep up. Whatever your situation, your day job isn’t providing you with the financial satisfaction you were hoping for, and now you want to find some extra work to bring in some extra cash. There’s no shame in having a job on the side.

Fortunately, there are dozens of easy jobs that can generate a surprising amount of income — as long as you commit to them. Here are 11 of those high-paying jobs.

1. Copyeditor

Writing is an invaluable skill and it is slowly but surely dying, even in the information age. Thus, companies will pay big bucks (or about $17 per hour) to those who are equipped with impeccable grammar for writing and editing various types of copy, from social media posts to editorial content.

2. Accountant

If you are a whiz with bookkeeping, there are a number of companies that desperately need your help. Part-time accountants come into an office and reconcile disparities between money in and money out. For this nail-bitingly necessary work, you can expect to take home roughly $19 per hour.

3. Photographer

Being a photographer is much more than taking pictures — it requires a detailed knowledge of lighting, composition, and editing to create magnificent images of people, places, and things. Professional photographers — meaning those who take pictures as their primary career — charge as much as $100 per hour. As a part-time photographer, you might start out charging around $20 per hour and work your way up. Of course, you will need to invest in some serious equipment first.

4. Translator

Although English is spoken far and wide, there remain a number of professions that require regular interaction with non-English speakers that need translation help. For example, legal assistants with foreign language experience can earn about $21 per hour by helping review legal documents and conversing with clients.

5. Tutor

Knowledge is power — the power to make money. Tutoring students, be they children in grade school or adults at college, is incredibly profitable, but the amount you charge is dependent on your experience and availability. Some tutors can charge more than $30 per hour, but most take home about $20 per hour.

6. Driver

Now that Uber and similar apps have made the driving profession easier to navigate, almost anyone can make money driving their own cars. In big cities, Uber claims drivers can take home $90,000 a year. However, that’s without the costs of gasoline, maintenance, and insurance. More realistically, you can expect to earn about $20 per hour driving.

7. Social Media Manager

Modern businesses live and die by their social media campaigns, which makes correctly managing social accounts incredibly lucrative. Social media gurus can earn up to $25 per hour by updating companies’ websites, overseeing their social media, and drafting reports on efficacy.

8. Investment Trader

The stock market is a veritable treasure trove for side hustlers. Though trading on the market is inarguably risky, traders with knowledge and skill can certainly make big bucks. What you take out of the market is wholly dependent on what you put in and how you trade, but you should be cautious while learning the ropes.

9. Software Developer

It likely isn’t necessary to explain how in demand software developers are in a world where online apps sell for billions of dollars. Payment for software developers is usually on a per-project basis, but experienced workers can earn around $30 per hour. Of course, this is a highly skilled trade — you must know how to create new websites and apps, update old ones, build templates, and more.

10. Travel Blogger

If travel is at the top of your bucket list, you can prep for your future trips as a travel blogger. Tourism and real estate companies contract writers to develop content about certain places (including information on population size, things to do, climate, and more) to entice visitors. For this opportunity, you could earn between $50 and $100 per project.

11. Nanny/Au Pair

You might remember taking home bank when you babysat your neighbor’s toddlers. As an adult, you can still make money watching other people’s kids by becoming a nanny or au pair. Part-time nannies can earn about $20 per hour, while live-in au pairs make weekly salaries that range from $100 to $300 or more.

Small Things Wonderful People Do That Build Deep Relationships

just-smile-by-black-chaos

There are only two kinds of relationships – those that are long-term and those that are very long-term. The rest are acquaintances. Long-term relationships are deep and are built to weather the storms along the way.

Here are ten small things wonderful people do to build deeper relationships:

1. They (Genuinely) Care

They care for what you care about as if it’s their own. There is a difference between genuinely caring and “pretending to care” and they clearly are in the former camp. When they converse with you, they tend to drop their agenda and focus on yours.

2. They Remember

I am not talking about birthdays and anniversaries. They care about things that matter most to you. In other words, they act as your self-appointed accountability partners. They catch things that you might have dropped owing to your busy schedule.

3. They (Thoughtfully) Connect

They thoughtfully connect you to people from their network to expand the space of your own possibilities in your personal and professional life. They are keenly aware that your capacity expands significantly when you are connected to the right people.

4. They Follow-up

They are relentless in their followup – not on what they need from you, but on things that move the needle of your personal and professional lives. They are aware that you start your projects with great intentions, but like everyone else you need a helping hand in following them through to completion.

5. They Make You Think

They don’t simply accept what you say when it comes to you taking important (game-changing) decisions in your work and life. They ask thoughtful questions that will make you think and re-think. In the process, you end up making better decisions.

6.  They Celebrate Your Wins

They are not “passively jealous” of your wins. They celebrate your wins with all their heart. In addition, they ensure that you don’t rest on your laurels by helping you set your sights on the next big thing for you.

7. They (Really) Listen

They listen to what you say AND they also listen to what you don’t say. They read between the lines to get to the bottom of what’s the real underlying issue that is bothering you. They also create a level of comfort for you to openly share your hopes, dreams, desires, fears, challenges, concerns, wishes and your wants.

8. They Smile

They are like a fresh breeze. They walk in with a smile all the time. It’s a joy to be spending time with them. You are in a flow when they are around.

9. They Make YOU Smile

They touch your life in such a powerful way that you start feeling good about yourself. They accentuate your positives and help you cover your negatives. In short, they make you smile and feel blessed. In their presence. you feel relaxed and at ease about life.

10. They Are Just a Phone Call Away

They make it clear and mean it when they say they are just a phone call away. They are there for you in good times and bad times. Just the fact that they are available in case you need them gives you a boost in your confidence to take on the challenges ahead.

11. They Demonstrate a High PGQ

Practical Generosity Quotient (PGQ) is the capacity one adds in relation to the capacity the other person needs to move the needle in a significant way. They bring with them a PGQ so high that you don’t have a choice but to feel blessed to be their friend.

In summary, your life is wonderful because you are surrounded by these wonderful people. Build deep relationships with these people and make your life magical.
