25 Habits of Highly Sensitive People
Highly sensitive people can often be seen as weak, but that’s not the case. More often than not, they are stronger than the average human being, and have the capability of letting their protective walls down when building personal and professional relationships. Developing a relationship with someone who is highly sensitive can help you become more in touch with your own feelings as well as help you see life’s messages that you may be missing. It may take patience to understand the inner thoughts of a highly sensitive person however you should feel honored that they are choosing you to be a part of their life.
1. They think with their heart
They follow their heart’s desire with ease when it comes to thinking ideas through. However, this can become a problem when they leap off the deep end without considering the logistics of a situation.
2. They talk everything out
They need to express their thoughts and feelings freely about everything, in order to feel heard and appreciated. Ironically, highly sensitive people can sometimes have a hard time listening to advice from others due to their sensitivity to words, and can often be offended if the wrong words are used during conversation.
3. They don’t rush through life
They know how to enjoy life’s moments by taking their time with everything they do. The pressure they may sometimes feel from others to hurry along, only adds stress on the relationship at hand, and not the trust that they require. Highly sensitive people enjoy taking in the scenery, and strive to keep stress to a minimum.
4. They appreciate time alone
With being so sensitive, it’s important for highly sensitive people to have time alone to decompress. Its amazing how quickly they can absorb any and all negative energy from the people in which surround them.
5. They strive to only do good
They truly want to do great things in this world and put their whole hearts into whatever it is that they are doing. However, they are easily discouraged when the great things they are working on don’t shape up as they had envisioned. Such as an unappreciated homemade gift, and/or gestures.
6. They pay attention to details
They can sometimes over think details to a point of driving everyone around them mad, but their observations usually payoff greatly. They naturally pay attention to the body language and emotions of everyone and everything around them. From nature, to animals, and people, they can predict something is not on point before it’s even been revealed. Such as someone lying about something, a sickness someone may be carrying, a pregnancy, a job promotion, or even a natural disaster!
7. They can give great advice
People who are highly sensitive are great at analyzing situations and offering up the best advice. They love feeling needed and can struggle when that great advise that they had given is not put to good use.
8. They display a tough exterior
Sensitive people tend to display a strong exterior with a stiff upper lip, and can be unknowingly mad at you for months. They may be hurt by something extremely small that you did or said, and will sometimes hold onto it to instead of expressing it, to avoid jeopardizing the chance of hurting you back. They recognize that it’s something they need to work on because of their high sensitivity, not something for you to deal with.
9. They know their worth
Sensitive people know when they are not being valued, and have the strength to walk away from any toxic situation. Others may not understand their reasoning looking at the whole picture, but the build up of bad habits in any given relationship will have them naturally walking away in search for greener pastures.
10. They are well mannered and polite
You can pretty much always expect a highly sensitive person to be aware of their surrounds by showcasing their expert manners. In return, they expect the same politeness and well-mannered behaviors from others, and may see you as rude if you don’t.
11. They are passionate
Whether it’s with their family, their friends, their love interest, or even their career, passion never falls short in their day-to-day lives. Sometimes if the energy is not reciprocated back to them, they can be become hard on the people they are putting so much energy into. With their passionate personalities on the line, they thrive on appreciation from others.
12. They are spiritual
They believe in karma and how everything happens for a reason. They believe that the universe works in a particular way to always make full circle. They like to live a life in harmony, even though they tend to struggle to find it internally. Highly sensitive people are likely to try activities such as meditation and yoga, at least once in their life, in search for that higher connection with their body and mind.
13. They have strong intuitions
They usually know something is going to happen before hand. Sometimes this may initially come across as if they are accusing or blaming, when in fact they just want to express and advise others of what they are feel may happen, and soon.
14. They trust their body
When making big life decisions like signing a legal binding contract, their body may alarm them that something is not right. To some this may seem frustrating, but they have learned from experience to trust their body when something doesn’t feel right.
15. They are empathic towards others
They can always put the shoe on the other foot, and understand what it must be like for someone else to go through certain struggles in life. This habit really plays a role when there’s an argument at hand, because it doesn’t take highly sensitive people long to see their self inside of someone else’s problem and instantly want to help or lend a hand. However, they sense too often that people do not replicate this emotion, which can sometimes reactive their initial anger.
16. They are compassionate towards others
They can truly hold concern for other people when they see others in a difficult situation. A highly sensitive person doesn’t need to know the person in harms way on a personal level, but can instantly feel compassion for the child who just fell off their bike, the shop owner who was just robbed, or even the character from a movie who just had their heart broken.
17. They put others before themselves
They sometimes get so wrapped up in the needs of other people, they can forget about their self. However, it’s a hard pill for them to swallow when they feel unappreciated for their effort and time. Not that they only help others for recognition, but a simple, “Thank you” will keep a highly sensitive person pleased.
18. They read people well
Within moments of meeting someone for the first time, they can gather a very accurate story of who a person really is. As time unravels, a highly sensitive person can surprise people with fun facts, which the person didn’t even realize about their self.
19. They love animals
They have a special bond with animals in whereby animals trust them completely. Not only do highly sensitive people appreciate the mutual respect that animals give without conditions, they are also sensitive to the needs and wants of each and every animal, and make a point to pay extra attention to all forms of communication they animal may or may not be giving.
20. They ask a lot of questions
In order to make sense of the world, they ask a lot of questions. Sometimes these questions can get them in trouble when they get too political or emotionally deep, but the questions they ask always leave us thinking in a positive light.
21. They make very calculated decisions
Highly sensitive people naturally think with their hearts, they make decisions based on the details of their emotions. They usually ask them-selves many internal questions like, “Why do I feel this way?”. Their decision-making is almost as calculated as a game of chest, and everything needs to have a reason and purpose before the next move is made.
22. They gain satisfaction with decision-making
They love knowing that their strategic planning paid off in the end, which it usually does. However when it doesn’t, they can be extremely hard on themselves with self-doubt.

They may be highly sensitive but they are not ones for thinking linearly. They hold many emotions, and this drives their many ways of thinking out solutions to their problems. Sometimes you need a quick inspiration to adjust your mindset. Here is the list of 8 books which can do just that – change and adjust your mindset.
You can read them in a day or two because most of them are little tiny books – Though all of them carry a very strong message. They are all like bombs packed in the tiny package of a box matches – no, they won’t harm you but they will blow your mind.
Some concepts of the books might even contradict each other. And such a selection was made on purpose: to see different aspects of success and then to find out what works best for you.

If you feel you are sometimes overcautious and you have hard times to make quick decisions then that’s a book for you. The author is Sir Richard Branson, the CEO of Virgin Group also known as ‘Dr. Yes’. And this ‘Yes’ thing is the whole philosophy of the book: no matter how big the task is, how impossible it looks in the beginning just say ‘yes’ and go for it! Once you start doing it you will figure it out somehow.
We live in a society where being overcautious is regarded as a sign of wisdom. This book will teach you that trying to find reasons for doing things is much better way than trying to find reasons for not doing it.
2. The Lazy Way To Success: How to Do Nothing and Accomplish Everything
The title of this book might mislead you that’s just one of the books promoting the hype. But that’s not the case. It is highly inspirational, very revolutionary book and definitely worth reading especially if you are a workaholic.
The author Fred Gratzon, once long-haired hippie, describes his specific way of success. He actually managed to established two highly successful businesses (an ice-cream company and a telecommunication company with over 1100 employees and $400 million in annual sales). Both of them, he started from the stretch, with no money, no business experience but with a different logic.
The book describes:
- that changing the paradigm is the most efficient way to success
- the laziness: it is not about doing nothing but doing what you love to do
- that hard work is not the only option
3. Rhinoceros Success
This book written by Scott Alexander is all about charging: charging at a full speed towards your goal. It is a complete opposite of the previously mentioned book The Lazy Way To Success. Read both of them and then find out what works best for you.
Rhinoceros Success highly promotes taking actions and being consistent. According to the author rhinos are synonyms for highly energetic entrepreneurs, while cows and sheep are mediocre folks who let the life just pass by.
After reading this book, you will feel like you are a big, thick-skinned rhino charging at full speed through all the obstacles on your way to success.
4. The American Millionaires Have Spoken
The book was actually written by non-American author, Petra Skarja, a young entrepreneur from Slovenia (where on Earth is that?!? – okay, it’s a small country on the border with Italy – got it? – and it happened to be my country, too)
Again this is one of the books written in a light tone but with a strong message you can apply straight away: be entrepreneurial even if you haven’t got your own business yet!
Start applying entrepreneurial ideas in your daily life, think, breath and move like an entrepreneur and you are not far away from your first (or second, or third,…) business. Yes, you might fail a few times and that is the second good thing you will learn from the book: failing is part of succeeding.
5. The Science Of Getting Rich
CAUTION: This is one of the books which can drastically change your life!
This all-time classic was written more than 100 years ago by Wallace D. Wattles but while reading it you think it was written just recently – the ideas there are so fresh!
This is one of the books which I have read in one go (with no eating and drinking in between) and I still read it regularly because I just can’t get it enough. No wonder it was the basis for the well-known book The Secret.
It will teach you that everything, every success starts with your mind and you taking actions. You change your mind and you change your destiny. So the question is how to change your mind…
Well, I won’t tell you… Because you just have to read it!
6. Don’t Eat the Marshmallow Yet!
This book, written by Joachim de Posada is based on a simple experiment which was done on children: They were offered sweets and were told that if they wait some time they will get even more sweets. Some decided to go for it, some ate all their sweets straight away.
Years later, their lives were tracked down and the experiment showed… hmm, you know me, I won’t tell you that.
Take a book and find out what an interesting result came out of the experiment.
The book is all about self-control. It tells you what is the difference between success and failure and that small things can make a big difference.
7. The Richest Man In Babylon
Another classic of the books on this list written by George Samuel Clason.
If you are struggling meeting ends of the month then that’s the books for you. It will teach you some essential secrets every successful entrepreneur follows, like:
- keep your expenditures down even when you experience the boost in your business
- make money work for you (not the other way around)
- invest hardly in yourself and only then in your business
Read it and you will learn many more success principles.
8. Delivering Happiness
Deliberately, I placed this book at the end of the list. Because at the end of the day, what we all strive for? Isn’t that happiness? We all want to be happy!
The book tells you just that. If we all want to be happy it is quite obvious that delivering happiness is the best business on Earth. Being focused on making your customers happy will make your business flourish as nothing else. It is all about giving massive value first and the money will come as a bypass product.
The book was written by business wizard Tony Hsieh, the founder and CEO of Zappos, a company well-known for its ever-evolving business system and constantly delivering happiness.

You might often be put into a position where you are obligated to do a certain thing or be a certain way, or to please the people around you. The truth is, you don’t always hold the responsibility of others’ happiness. Loving yourself is essential in order to ensure happiness. You have to learn to love yourself first, before you can proceed to help others. Here are 10 things you should forget, if you really love yourself.
1. Forget trying to make everybody like you.
While it is nice having people to like you, it is not possible to be adored by everybody. By accepting the fact that each individual has different preferences in things and people they like, you will be able to appreciate those who adore you and be okay with those who don’t.
2. Forget trying to please everybody.
You can never please everybody. It is important to be nice, but trying to please everybody is just going to end up burning you out because you can never fulfill every person’s expectations. Help others when you are capable of helping, and know when it is the right time to just let others take care of things on their own.
3. Forget always needing approval from others.
The only person you should seek approval from is you. You might think that fulfilling the expectations of others will make you happy, but in a long run, you will start resenting them or yourself for not truly living for yourself. Finding your passion and living true to it is the right way to get approval from yourself.
4. Forget what others think of you.
What others think can serve as a reference for your learning, but what they think shouldn’t bother you to the point where it brings you down or changes who you are. Every individual has different values and beliefs that make them think they way they do; therefore they will never truly understand your situation base on your values, beliefs and life experiences. As long as you know your own purpose and motivations, what others think doesn’t really matter.
5. Forget trying to be perfect.
Aiming to do a great job is admirable, but nothing can ever be perfect, as there will always be room for improvement in everything. What matters is for you to constantly aim to improve yourself. 15 Things To Remember If You Love A Person With Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder can be a challenge to navigate. The disorder is fundamentally characterized by dramatic mood swings and can lead to struggles in personal relationships. The National Institute of Health estimates that nearly 2.6 million Americans are currently effected by the disorder. This means that many loved ones are faced with the challenges involved in supporting individuals with this disorder. In order to provide the best support network possible, there are several things to keep in mind when working with an individual with bipolar disorder.
1. They experience emotions on extra loud when in a state of mania
Although we usually explain mood swings in terms of highs and lows, it is not the case that bipolar individuals feel all great happy things when in a state of mania. Instead, all the emotions one normally experiences are on a more intense setting. Everything comes through louder and it can be very difficult to navigate everyday life with such an intensity.
2. They have to navigate a lot of complex medications
Currently, medications for bipolar disorder do not effect everyone equally. As a result, each individual has to work through a complicated web of proper medications in order to find the best balance. This takes time and energy from the individual and can lead to higher levels of stress.
3. They miss perceiving the world as they did prior to the disorder
Depression and mania can cause one’s perception of the world to change dramatically. This can be both exhausting and frustrating. When the medications start to balance out and things begin to stabilize, the individual may again see things through a more normal lens. This can be a great feeling, but it can also be frightening because its unclear if this will last.
4. They enjoy parts of mania, but ultimately feel exhausted by them
There are parts of mania which are exciting and fun. Colors are more vibrant and individuals often feel incredibly empowered; however, every episode of mania comes with a deep slide into depression. The obsession and highs of mania take incredible amounts of energy and ultimately wear the individual out.
5. They sometimes consider going off their medication
This is not true for all individuals with bipolar disorder, but when the medications begin to work and stabilize the everyday experiences of the individual, it can take some time to adjust. The life of an individual with bipolar disorder is filled with extremes. When medications begin to remove some of those extremes, it may feel somewhat boring. This sensation typically passes as the individual realizes this is a healthier way of life, but before that realization can come, he or she may be tempted to return to the extremes.
6. They often struggle to be open about their disorder
Revealing one’s struggles with bipolar disorder can lead to feeling vulnerable. It takes a lot of guts to trust another individual with this information, even though he or she may really want to help their loved ones understand the explanation behind their sometimes unusual behavior.
7. They experience more than the normal ups and downs of life
Everyone feels highs and lows, but individuals with bipolar disorder are experiencing much more. It is important to respect this difference and not put unreasonable expectations on the individual as a result.
8. They are not alone in their struggles with mental health
Millions of Americans struggle with mental health issues. Although bipolar disorder has its own unique characteristics, many people are trying to navigate the complexities of mental health. That means those trying to support such individuals are also not alone. Seek support if you need it.
9. They don’t necessarily want your sympathy
Of course we all need a bit of sympathy here and there, but you shouldn’t assume right off the bat that sympathy is required. It is best to listen and try to understand as much as you can. Avoid saying you understand more than you do, and be weary of giving out too much advice. Just be a friend that listens and you will be great.
10. They will never “cure” their disorder, but can learn to manage it
Bipolar disorder is with the individual for a lifetime. There is no medical solution to curing the condition. Through medication and often therapy the disorder can be managed so the individual may live a healthier life, but there currently is no “cure.”
11. They may or may not be more creative than the average person
There has been some research indicating a connection between bipolar disorder and creativity; however, creative abilities are not necessarily part of the package. For some, such as Stephen Fry and Demi Lovato, their disorder does seem to contribute to their creativity.
12. They were not diagnosed via a specific test
Bipolar disorder is complex and currently there is no single test one can take to determine if he or she has the disorder. As a result, it often takes some time and careful analysis from a professional to receive the diagnosis. As a loved one, you are probably not in the best position to diagnose someone or seriously challenge the diagnosis, so take concerns directly to the doctors if necessary.
13. They want to know you love them, no matter what their current state
Whether its a moment of mania, or a time slice in the depths of depression, stability and love are critical. The world is an extreme place for someone with this disorder, and whatever pieces of stability they can latch onto are critical to their sense of well being. You can help by being consistent and finding ways to communicate your love to the individual.
14. They might need you to wait until they are ready
Sometimes the best you can do for someone with bipolar disorder is give them the time they need. Although your friend may want to come out with you or call you on the phone, sometimes they truly need some time to process through their current experience. Sometimes the gift of time is truly the greatest a friend can give.
15. They want to be treated like everybody else
Bipolar disorder comes with a lot of unusual experiences, but deep down each person longs to live a normal life. Its important that those supporting such individuals strive to provide the space needed for this individual’s health, but whenever possible, he or she should be treated like everybody else.
