Can You See The Beauty Of This Photo? Most People Can’t

It seems like a norm for us to take our smartphones out and take photos if we see something amazing. And when you meet a movie star, no one would give up the chance taking a record and maybe sharing it on social media afterwards. However, an old woman in the photo uses the best device – her own eyes, to appreciate what’s she’s seeing and to feel all the feels. Such “old fashion” is actually full of wisdom and I guess she’s even more attractive than the movie star when she ignores what most people are doing around her.

Why Women Suffer From Insomnia More Often Than Men (And Ways To Help!)

causes of insomnia in women

Men lose weight faster and easier than women, they don’t ever have to experience pregnancy hormones, the pain of childbirth or the craziness of menopause, and they need less sleep than women do. As if these statements aren’t enough, scientists also know that women are far more likely to suffer from insomnia than men.

In fact, when it comes to sleep disorders and disturbances, women beat men in every category except one – sleep apnea. At least we don’t have to sleep with a loud machine strapped to us, but at this point, there are a lot of women out there who would gladly put up with a sleep apnea machine if it meant they could sleep!

So why are women not sleeping? There can be many causes of insomnia, and some are specific to women. Here are some of the main causes of insomnia in women and what you can do to combat them and get some shut-eye:

Hormones Are One of the Causes of Insomnia in Women

insomnia10

Your monthly cycle, perimenopause and menopause can all cause sleep disturbances and leave you tossing and turning. Not to mention the night sweats! Sometimes the hormones that show up during your period can make you feel more emotional or sensitive than usual and this can keep you awake at night as well.

What to do: Talk to your doctor about your options for treatment during menopause. It could be a long time before sleep stops evading you and for some, it lasts for many years. If it’s period symptoms that keep you from sleeping well, try taking ibuprofen before bed, sleeping with a fan or applying a hot water bottle if you’re experiencing cramps.

Being A Light Sleeper Doesn’t Help Insomnia

insomnia3

There’s nothing worse than being woken up in the night and not being able to get back to sleep. Women know this feeling more than anyone because they are typically lighter sleepers than men. Whether its the kids, the dog, the snoring husband or the sounds of traffic outside, women tend to wake up to anything. This does not help when battling insomnia.

What to do: Unless you have small children, try wearing ear plug at night to block out sounds. If you can’t stand sleeping with ear plugs, you can also try putting a loud fan on or turning on a white noise machine. These types of sounds usually help people to focus in on them instead of other sounds (like your partner’s snoring) and will help you to sleep. If you have reallu good hearing, you may want to get the loudest fan you can find!

Pregnancy Can Cause Insomnia

insomnia12

The closer you get into your pregnancy, the harder it is to fall asleep and stay asleep. It’s almost like your body is preparing you for the first few months of your baby’s life when sleep will be but a distant memory! Pregant women are tired and need sleep though, and not being able to get comfortable at night is very frustrating. (Especially when you can’t drink a pot of coffee in the morning.)

What to do: The more pregnant you become, the harder it will be, but you can still try! Get another pillow or two so you can put one under your belly and behind your back for added support if you need it. If you have room, you can also try investing in a larger bed, because you will be grateful for the extra space as the baby continues to grow. You may also benefit from a fan at night when hot flashes start kicking in. These tips may or may not continue to work as you grow, so if you ever have the opporunity to nap, always, always take it, because you never know what the next night will bring with it!

Your Lifestyle May be the Culprit

insomnia9

“A woman’s job is never done.” This cliche is all too true for so many women. Between your, kids, work, spouse and home, the day always seems to end with a list of things you haven’t been able to get to. While men seem to be able to forget about a to-do list, and drift off easily at night, women have a much harder time going to sleep with things left undone. When you are this busy, it is extra hard for your brain to relax at night and allow sleep to take over. When you lay your head on your pillow at night, your mind should not be going a hundred miles an hour!

What to do: Keep bedtime sacred and start winding down for the night at least an hour before you’d like to be asleep. If there are things on your mind, write them down before you get in bed. This signals your brain that it will be taken care of and it might actually let you sleep for a change!

Guess What’s Hidden Inside? What The Man Does After Finding It Is Truly Inspirational

Screen Shot 2016-07-15 at 16.23.45

What would you expect to find in an old wardrobe?

Syrian refugee Muhannad was amazed to discover that the wardrobe in his new German home was hiding a substantial amount of money. As he dissembled and then re-fitted the furniture pieces, he noticed a concealed pocket on the underside of a shelf. It contained wads of cash along with passbooks that would have granted the bearer access to even more cash contained within bank accounts. It appeared that a former owner of the wardrobe hadn’t wanted to trust any institution with their money and so had decided to hide it in a piece of furniture.

One man’s decision to do the right thing

Muhannad could have used the money to bring his brothers over from Syria to begin a new life in Germany. However, after checking that the banknotes were real, he immediately contacted the German police and turned the cash in. For his honesty, he will receive a reward of $4,500.

A true inspiration

It’s often said that a true measure of a person’s character is their decision to do what is right, even when they could do otherwise and never be found out. Rather than use the money to further his own life and help out his family, Muhannad chose to act with integrity. It seems that many people reading this story have been greatly moved by Muhannad’s actions, judging by some of the comments left on the NPR article:

Date Someone Who Makes You Feel Like You’re The Best Version Of Yourself

Screen Shot 2016-07-19 at 12.28.08 PM

Dating is like a litmus test for love. This feel-out process of two people sharing dinner, watching a movie, or simply spending time together is critical to see if both are compatible to go all in. If their dates don’t pan out, then they move on the next person to go out with until they find someone whom they feel they can spend their lives with.

Most importantly, dating is all about yourself.

You have your quirks and flaws, just as much as others do. Therefore, dating is about finding a person who will accept you wholeheartedly, just as much you can accept his or her strangeness.

Because it is virtually impossible to date a person whom you can’t feel yourself with. You cannot go out with a person who looks for something in you that you do not have. You cannot force yourself to change just so your date will like you.

This is not how dating works.

Therefore, by embracing the fact that you are perfect just the way you are, you need to date a person who makes you stronger as an individual.

Date someone who encourages you to become the best version of yourself possible.

The funny thing about the truth is that, no matter how hard you try to suppress, it will always find its way out in the open.

Imprisoning yourself by pretending to be someone you’re not will only lead to heartbreak and sorrow.

Some people are left to abandon their originality due to the pressures of conformity, or when they’re dating someone whose approval they want so bad. Instead of letting their true colors shine, they hide them away and act the way their date wants them to be.

Date someone whom you can be truly honest with so you don’t have to feel like judged because your upbringing and personalities are different from the norm. Go out with a person with whom you can share your deepest secrets with and who will do the same with you.

A great date would truly believe you’re awesome.

Conformity is overrated – the more people strive to look more beautiful and act a certain way due to social pressures, the more people become just like everyone else. It takes away the very essence that makes you who you truly are. Your identity becomes a casualty killed by the overwhelming clamor for sameness and compromise.

Dating someone who fights for your individuality and embraces your weirdness that separates you from the sea of sameness allows you to swim against the mainstream and find your ocean where both of you can be an island together.

If you have one already, never let him/her go.
