Being an alcoholic can be a lonely and frustrating experience. Often, you feel like no one else has gone through what you are going through. The fun and buzz that you may have experienced when you first started drinking is long gone, and often all that is left is a feeling of despair and helplessness.

But there are many who have gone through the hard process of quitting. For them, it has been a long and difficult road.

For those of you who manage to reach sobriety, there can often be mixed feelings. Below are some comments made by alcoholics. They are divided into three categories based on how it feels to be an alcoholic, how hard it is to quit drinking, and how good it feels when you do manage to quit.

12 Eating Habits of the Highly Successful and Fit

Staying fit and healthy today is a difficult task, especially when you are busy all the time. Professionals, especially working parents, rarely have the time to experiment and find the diet that suits them best. If you are strapped for time, take a look at these 12 hacks that will keep you fit and healthy, boosting your metabolism and your cognitive abilities in the process.

Remember: these are not your run-of-the-mill tips and tricks. They combine Ayurvedic best practices and data gleaned from years of researching so-called “Blue Zones,” areas in the world where people have the highest life expectancy, such as Sardinia, Japan, and Costa Rica. 1. Limit your sugar intake.

Cut down on sugar starting tomorrow! If you are accustomed to refined white sugar and really can’t go without it, try replacing it with stevia. Don’t give up on desserts. That is not the point. The point is to get your body weaned off sweeteners that result in diabetes and a myriad of other health issues. Start by taking your coffee or tea without sugar, and avoid sugar-rich drinks.

2. Get your food from plants.

Stock up on apples, carrots, peaches, bananas—basically, all fruit and vegetables you can get your hands on. Aim to have plants make up 80 to 90 % of your daily diet. This can be tricky, but if you substitute all your unhealthy snacks with a piece of carrot or a stick of fruit, you’ll be halfway there. Top that with a rich salad instead of a steak during lunchtime, and you’re there!

3. Eat fish once a day.

Sardines and anchovies should be on your to-eat list every day. They are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, but low in mercury and other poisonous chemicals. The best way to introduce them into your diet is through salads; next time you’re making a tuna salad, don’t. Make it a sardine, anchovies, or cod salad instead.

4. Limit meat to twice a week.

Fit people avoid meat, and you should follow suit. Limit your meat to 10–15 ounces a month, so a piece of chicken breast twice a week will be quite enough. Evolutionary, humans ate meat when they were lucky to catch some game, which was not all that frequent. Also, make chicken, pork, or lamb your meat of choice. All the better if the meat is free-range, which means that you’ll avoid ingesting additives and chemicals associated with mass-produced meats.

5. Cut down on eggs and dairy.

The human body is bad at processing cow milk, and a lot of people are actually slightly lactose intolerant without even knowing it. Also, cow milk is full of sugar and fats. You can get your daily dose of calcium from certain vegetables, such as kale, broccoli, and spinach, so substitute milk with them. Goat and sheep products, on the other hand, are beneficial to your health, so try to work them into your diet. Limit eggs to three to four a week. If you need them in baked dishes, substitute them with mashed potatoes, bananas, or applesauce.

6. Sit down and eat.

Eating on the go is bad for your digestion. Snacking is OK, but gobbling up a full meal from a container while on the go is definitely not healthy. Sit down and concentrate on your food. Turn off the TV, put away your smartphone and just enjoy the food. You will end up eating less, but feeling fuller and more satisfied with your meal.

7. Schedule your main meals at the same time every day.

Small, healthy snacks throughout the day will keep you energized and on the ready, and you should indulge in them readily. However, when the time comes for a proper, hardy meal, make sure to take it at a roughly the same time every day. This will help you control cravings and train your metabolism to kick into the fifth gear at the right time.

8. Drink water at the right time.

If you want to limit how much you eat in a single sitting, make sure to drink two glasses of water around 10 minutes before your meal. Also, sip water between bites to soften the food and make it easier on your stomach to process it. However, once you’re done with your meal, refrain from drinking anything for 20 minutes. Give your stomach time to break down the food before flooding it with water that will weaken those digestive juices.

9. Stop before you’re full.

Always leave the table wanting a bite more! Eat until you’re about 85–90 % full, and then put your utensils down and don’t buckle! This is important because it will do wonders for your digestion. Also, it will make you more appreciative of food in general. A good rule of thumb is to stop after a particularly satisfying mouthful. Pack up the leftovers and put them in the fridge; there is no point in wasting food.

10. Make red wine your alcohol of choice.

One would think that alcohol is a no-no for people trying to stay fit and healthy. It turns out that you would be wrong. One to three glasses of red wine per day will help your body absorb those plant-based antioxidants that you are ingesting on a daily basis and reduce stress. Also, red wine is good for your blood and metabolism in general, so we can confidently recommend you treat yourself to a glass a day!

11. Eat nuts on a daily basis.

Nuts reduce the levels of the so-called “bad cholesterol” by nearly 20%! Studies show that people who eat two handfuls of nuts a day have a significantly lower mortality rate than people who avoid eating nuts. Also, nuts are proven to boost your cognitive abilities, keeping you mentally sharp and intellectually fit. Windows 10 was released on July 29th 2015, and has been a steady topic of the tech world ever since. 14 million users downloaded it just 24 hours after the release. This is partly due to the fact that Microsoft offered it as a free download for existing Windows users, and a different service model that releases service packs every few months. This is to the dismay of users that do not want to update their systems so frequently.

More recently, the backlash has been over privacy concerns brought on by this new operating system. The concern lies in the fact that Windows 10 automatically assigns each user an advertising ID that is linked to the email address that is on file. Using this ID, the company tailors advertisements that will be seen when browsing the internet and using certain applications.

Secondly, user’s personal data, like Wi-Fi passwords is being synced with the servers on Microsoft. This can be encrypted and shared with user’s contacts, using the feature called Wi-Fi sense. Microsoft has its own “personal assistant” Cortana, and it must collect data to provide the detailed service that it does. One of the biggest worries for Microsoft customers is their policy on disclosing and sharing personal information.

These are some steps to take to maintain control of the features in question and are the easiest ways to increase security settings in Windows 10.

1. Installation Options

If Windows 10 has not yet been installed, be sure to do a custom install. This means that users can pick and choose which features are enabled at the time of installation. If Windows 10 was installed with the express setting, it is still possible to disable some of the privacy settings defaults.

2. General Security

Click the Start button, then Settings, then Privacy. Click on the General tab that will be on the left sidebar. Under this tab, there will be sliders that can toggle on and off. The top button is most important to disable; this is the one that allows use of the advertising ID. Switching the rest of the toggle switches will disable the other features as well.

3. Network and Internet

Still under the General settings, click on Manage Wi-Fi settings (this will be in the middle of the screen). To keep everything private, all sliders should be moved to the “off” position, and the boxes should be unchecked. Otherwise, it is possible to select the features individually.

4. Location Security

After this, go to the Location tab, and turn off location data for specific applications or all applications. This is not totally new to Windows 10, but it is something that those who are concerned with their security like to do.

5. Speech, Inking, and Typing

This section disables Cortana from obtaining information about you. Just click the “Stop getting to know me” button in the middle of the screen. This also disables Cortana and dictation.

6. Other Devices

You may turn off the “Sync with devices” feature, which is used for advertising purposes.

How else can users protect themselves? Simply put, disconnect more and be aware of what you are signing up for.

  • Microsoft has Device Guard, a program that vets applications and determines if they are safe or not by checking them against a list of vendors, the Windows app store, and an enterprise.
  • Microsoft’s Hello is a program that uses biometrics for encryption rather than passwords. This will only work with a machine that has a fingerprint reader and scanning software.
  • Passport is a program that allows access basically with no password. You will verify the possession of the device with a PIN or Windows Hello, and then all password protected websites will be accessible.

For every program that is invented to protect users, there is another to do just the opposite.

8 Tips to Stay Motivated When You’re Ready to Quit

There you are, in the middle of it all, just staring off into space. Once you snap back to reality, you look down at what you’re doing. All of a sudden you need a break, to stretch or whatever—just something to get away.

You’ve become so antsy in your chair. You know you have to finish but for some reason you just can’t get your head back in the game.

So you continue to stare off into space. Hey, it was pretty entertaining the first time around.

Mom is not around anymore.

You’ve completely trailed off course. This is usually the point where your mother would intervene and get you back on course. But you’re a big kid now. Mommy isn’t around to make sure you finish your homework. You’ve got to get it all done yourself.

But what just happened? You got over what you thought was the biggest hurdle, starting, and now you can’t finish. You lost steam mid-task. Somewhere down the line you lost the motivation to see the task to the very end. At this point, you’re probably not too interested in completing it at all. You’re pretty much ready to quit.

But you know you have to get it done eventually. And you originally carved out the time to do it now. So somehow you have to do what your mom always did, but a little differently.

You’re going to see this task through by maintaining your own motivation. Long gone are the days when someone else motivated you. You’re on your own now kid. And this is how you’ll pull it off.

1. Be happy.

Kind of odd, I know. But think about how hard it is to do something when you’re miserable! You can’t tell a miserable person anything. So if you’re unhappy you’ll have your work cut out for you when it comes to getting anything done.

Regardless of how you feel at the moment there is a reason somewhere to be happy. Focus on that reason and the other wonderful things around you. The happier you are the more positive work you can do.

2. Expect mistakes.

By now you should know that they are a part of life. Of course you should minimize them whenever you can. But no one expects you to know every single thing at one time, so mistakes are going to happen.

And that’s perfectly fine, as long as you don’t use making a mistake as a reason to throw in the towel. Better yet, use your mistakes to your advantage.

3. Be present.

When you’re staring off into space you tend to think about everything except for what’s going on now. Worrying about the future or dwelling on the past isn’t going to help you one bit in the present. In fact, it’s taking you away from it. Regain control of your thoughts and focus on what you’re supposed to be doing now.

4. Clock it.

When you have to complete a task that is less than thrilling, determine how long it will take and clock yourself. This will make sure that you’re making the best of your time and reduce the allowance for distractions. There’s nothing like working against a deadline to kick your butt in gear.

5. Think about the results.

You do things for a reason. You take on a task because you want to get to the end result. Remember that.

Feeling less than motivated to continue? Remind yourself what it’s all about, why you’re doing it in the first place. Then, the motivation will come.

6. Reward yourself.

Remember when your coach would take the team out for ice cream after a win? You probably spent the whole game thinking about all the toppings you wanted to put on your cone. That’s what motivated you to hit that home run. Who cares about a trophy when you can have your own personalized ice cream cone!

You should continue to reward yourself the same way as you finish different tasks. But I wouldn’t recommend eating ice cream every single time you complete something.

7. Keep track.

When you don’t realize how much progress, you’ve made you can easily convince yourself that quitting is a fine choice. Think about how annoyed you’d be when you realized that you quit after you’ve done so much work and were almost done. Keeping track of your progress will motivate you to hit another milestone.

8. Consider the cost.

Not completing a task means giving up on something bigger. Ask yourself, if you gave up now, what would it cost you? Sometimes fear and pain are the most powerful motivators. They can compel you to begin again when nothing else works.

Look Mom!

Once you master these tips you’ll become a certified finisher. You’ll be able to get more done and be successful at whatever you take on. Nothing will get in your way. Make your mother proud!

The one thing that does differ is the amount of sleep a particular person needs. Scientists have argued for years about the “correct” amount of sleep that a single human needs each night.

Many doctors and scientists draw closely towards a solid 8 hours a night for the average adult, but if you asked 10 random people what they think their optimal sleep schedule looked like, you’d likely get widely differing answers.

Some people prefer 5-6 hours a night and can function at their full capacity on this, while others need 9-10 hours to feel normal the next morning.
